Since i'm a sucker for medical dramas, i tried this out. This will be my first Japanese medical series, since the only ones i've watched are like ER (my first ever English medical drama which to me is still the BEST) and Grey's Anatomy (which i didn't really like much maybe becoz of all the romance and it's just not as exciting or nerve-wrecking like ER). I prefer ER coz it's mostly emergency situations and we get to see gory blood spurting everywhere. xDDD

Although Iryu isn't anything like ER and it's mostly on cardiac/heart operations, i still want to try this out. And so far, i'm not disappointed as it is pretty interesting. It's about this genius heart surgeon, Asada Ryutaro who spent his life in the countryside after being betrayed by his colleague that was jealous of his skills. Miki, a good operation nurse followed Asada to the war zones to serve as volunteers after Asada was sacked for several years.

Kato Akira, is another associate professor who wished to one day be a Professor and she went for Asada's help to complete her thesis on Batista. In the first episode, we see Asada being reluctant to join Kato. but after being persuaded by Miki and tempted by the Batista thesis, he followed Kato to her University Hospital and began his life as a recognized doctor again.

From the beginning, we were revealed that Miki has a heart problem.

Asada in the University Hospital, dealing with a whole different law and meeting useless/hopeless doctors and medical staffs.

Kato is seen here mingling with the doctor who put the blame on Asada back in North University Hospital, where Asada worked before.Apparently, Kato and Kirima Gunji (above) are actually couples, despite the fact that they seem to compete with each other in the medical field.

Kato being impressed by Asada's performance and crude methods to save patients in difficult and often impossible situations.

And in the first episode, the one part that got me impressed was this scene where Miki suddenly collapsed as a result of having pressure in her lungs, preventing them to return to its normal states.

With not much time to ask for emergency help....

Asada decided to use a ballpoint pen, broken into half with holes on both ends and stuck them into her thorax.

Seriously, i cam feel the pain haha...

I don't know whether this can really work in real life situations or not, well...most probably not but since this is drama, anything is possible right? But it seemed pretty real to me, so it's ok.

And the other thing that enhance the whole mood and atmosphere is the theme song that is always played after they succeed in saving patients' lives. I love the theme song, it's really good and it fits the drama. *i'm only till episode 6 so far so well...this is not bad*
